Observing the eclipse in Bitonto

On the 20th of March 2015 it was possible in Europe to follow the phases of the solar eclipse called “equinox eclipse”. In Bitonto (Italy) at our latitude the eclipse was partial, with a percentage of 47% of obscuration. Our students followed the phenomenon in the school garden, equipped with special lenses with protective filter, to prevent damage to the eyes. The eclipse began at 9:29, the peak was at 10:36 and the end at 11:47. The students took pictures to the sun partially hidden by the Moon, staring at all the significant moments of the event.
The students learned the method of projection: we observed the eclipse on a white surface, projected through the lenses of a telescope pointed at the sun. This is the safest way to follow an eclipse, not damaging the view. In the photographic composition (made by engineer Carlo Brancale) you can see the different stages of the projected eclipse.
